To disclose or not to disclose…

23 06 2007

I’ve received the official letter of acceptance of my internship, together with the agreement I have to sign and to return. The agreement is fairly short and simple, but it has a cumbersome attachment, the so called non disclosure agreement, or NDA.

Needless to say, I’ll sign it and I won’t disclose any secrets learned during my internship.

Nevertheless, I’ll do my best to share as much as possible about my work/study experience with you.  I should probably avoid telling you the name of the company I’ll be working for…

A good start for the web radio

22 06 2007

As announced, I went to the radio aperitif on Wednesday, even if Urbino was not exactly on my way back from Rome… Here are two pictures. I’m the one behind the camera…

It was fun. There was a fair amount of sangria, all kinds of coktails, a good DJ, good music, and a great enthusiasm. The web radio guys are making a flying start. The aperitif was meant to involve as many students as possible to the project. They say that at least 100 students are needed to guarantee that the web radio will work 24 hours per day…

Last night all the students engaged in the speaker contest did a great job.

They also asked students to propose a logo and a jingle for the radio. Both things are out of reach for me.

The web radio will be on air in October. It’s time to start working hard to make it work. To join the team just write to webradio@uniurb.it. It really is interesting and fun, so – the more the merrier!

Quick trip to Rome

20 06 2007

This is nice! I came to Rome today with my mum. She had to get her Canadian passport renewed. Sometime over the next year or so she wants us to meet up in her home province of Nova Scotia in Canada. I always jump for the chance to go to Rome. This morning we went to the Consulate, where, despite a big crowd outside, they let us in and within 20 min we had her new passport in our hands! She had applied before of course, and from where I live in Gualdo Tadino, you can take the Eurostar train and it only takes two hours to get to Rome – better than the post! This evening we’re going to meet a friend at the library and go for a drink or two – then back on the train and home! I have to say, I love my country – so much to do and see everywhere you go. I have to get back for the URC@ aperitivo tonight, so anybody reading – see you there! Will you know who I am?!!!? Ha ha! I’m not going to tell you, so you’ll have to post me here to find out!

That reminds me – at the Embassy we saw that they have a programme for Italian youth to have a work visa in Canada for six months. It would be a great thing! The lady at the Consolate told us that it was a new policy of promoting exchange between Canada and Italy – so that young Canadians and Italians can have a six-month work experience in the other country. You have to find the job yourself, though, and then the Embassy gives you a visa. Anyway – if anyone is interested, you can find information on the Canadian Embassy in Rome web-page at www.canada.it.

In other news – man it’s hot today! I saw earlier on Via XX settembre that it is 33 degrees today in Rome! Ugh! My mum is a big walker too, she doesn’t care about the heat.  I think we walked for about two hours this morning until finally I said “mum” – damnit! I need a beer! Actually, this is fantastic – I’m writing you this from just below palazzo Testa -Piccolomini. I brought my laptop just in case. I always love to sit in piazza (the square!) and watch people, but at home, of course, it’s a small town. It’s fun to see all the politicians and businessmen and tourists! (The Americans are all very red in this heat!) I suppose I’d “stick out like a sore thumb” if I were in America – boh! (I have to say, our girls are prettier though!!! ha ha ha!) Well, who am I to say. Anyway – mum’s bugging me about being boring company – so I’ll see YOU later – hopefully at apperitivo this evening!

URC@!

16 06 2007

I’m going to the States to work on a web-radio project, which, I see, they are NOW doing in URBINO!!!!

Just joking, I’ve been involved in this from the beginning… It’s one of the initiatives proposed by the students that has been incorporated into the Urbino Wireless Campus project. URC@! means Urbino Radio C@mpus, a web radio developed and managed by students for everybody.

On Wednesday the Residence Halls  at the University are going to hold a “radio-aperitivo” evening – a web radio happy hour to promote student involvement. I’m going – it should be a good time – and I hope to see a many of you there.

Place: Urbino, Collegio Tridente

Time: Wednesday 20, 6:30pm

Be there or be square (my mother is always saying this stuff)

Welcome everybody!

15 06 2007

Hello! My name is Roberto. I’m a computer science student in Urbino, Italy, and I have just found out that my work/study project on web-radio has been accepted in Madison Wisconsin! I’m so exited! I’ve opened this blog to document my experiences while I’m in the United States – both to immerse myself in English and hopefully meet new people.
